Nicole Richie serves 1 hour 22 minutes in jail

While the media were in a frenzy over Lindsay Lohan's DUI case, Nicole Richie quietly checked herself into - and out of - Lynwood jail. According to the website of the LA Sheriff's Department, Richie checked in at 3:15 p.m. and was released at 4:37 p.m. She was assigned to a cell for only 35 minutes. A source at the department said Richie was routinely processed and released according to normal operating rules. The Sheriff's Department released the following statement: "On August 23, 2007, at 3:15 p.m., Miss Nicole Camille Richie reported to CRDF and surrendered herself following a July 27 arrest, she was sentenced to serve 96 hours in county jail. Miss Richie was accompanied by her attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley and her boyfriend Joel Madden. Miss Richie was booked and processed into the jail system. Miss Richie cooperated during the process. Based on her sentence and federal court guidelines, Miss Richie was released at 4:37 p.m."
