Cowboys 7 vs Redskins 13 Score

Donovan McNabb and coach Mike Shanahan beat the Cowboys 13-7 in their Redskins debuts, with considerable help from Dallas mistakes at the end of each half.

In the final play of the first half, with the Cowboys needing a Hail Mary to score, quarterback Tony Romo ran from the pocket and completed a shovel pass to running back Tashard Choice. The Redskins converged on Choice, ripping the ball from his grip. DeAngelo Hall returned the fumble 32 yards, somersaulting into the end zone to make the score 10-0.

"That was my fault before the half. We should have taken a knee," Dallas coach Wade Phillips said.

The Cowboys moved inside the Redskins' 40 on three of their first four drives and didn't score a point, and the drive everyone will remember is the last one.

The Cowboys started at their 19 with 1:45 left. They converted a 4th-and-10 at Washington's 43. Three plays later, with three seconds left, Romo scrambled to find Roy Williams open in the end zone.

But while the Cowboys were celebrating, an official was calling lineman Alex Barron for an obvious hold, negating the score. It was the Cowboys' 12th penalty.

"It was a little heart-wrenching," Hall said. "I saw that flag on the field. I didn't know what it was for. When I saw the referee make the holding signal - shooooo! - I sprinted off the field."
