Oregon governor election results - John Kitzhaber projected winner

ailed as Oregon's next governor by several Oregon news outlets. Both the Oregonian and KOIN News are projecting a Kitzhaber victory. The contest between Democrat John Kitzhaber and Republican Chris Dudley was one of the closest Oregon elections on record.

The Oregonian reports:

Former Gov. John Kitzhaber will win the governor’s race, The Oregonian projects, giving the Democrat a history-making third term.

Although Republican Chris Dudley continues to hold a slim lead, mathematical calculations based on statewide voting trends show Kitzhaber is likely to overtake him and win by about 10,000 votes out of 1.4 million cast. The newspaper’s projections show Kitzhaber winning by 49 percent to 48 percent, which is outside the margin for automatic recount.

KOIN local 6 reports:

Citing "higher mathematics," KOIN Local 6 Political Analyst Jim Moore projects John Kitzhaber as the next governor of Oregon.

"There are approximately 40,000 votes left to count and Kitzhaber will win 70 percent of those, which is 28,000 votes," said Dr. Moore.

John Kitzhaber is Oregon's best choice for Governor. Kitzhaber was the only candidate with the knowledge and experience to lead Oregon in 2010 and beyond.

While Chris Dudley might have been an attractive personality and a friendly face, he simply lacked the experience the job demands.
